For next year, Summit Recycling Project's board and staff has outlined
priorities for new commodities and programs:
A move to the landfill: Early next year, SRP will be moving some
operations to the Summit County landfill. This move is the start of a process
intended to make SRP's operations more efficient and profitable through
construction of a Materials Recovery Facility.
Construction and Demolition Waste: Construction and wood waste has been
estimated to constitute about 40% of our local waste stream. Through source
separation and reuse we will start to address this commodity and significantly
reduce the amount of waste buried in the landfill.
Business Recycling Support: SRP will launch the Choose Environmental
Excellence Campaign intended to encourage and support local businesses to reduce
waste and recycle.
Paperboard: Paperboard, like cereal boxes, is the latest addition to the
recyclables collected at our drop-off centers!
Mobile Recycling Trailer: Through a grant from The Summit Foundation, SRP
was able to purchase a mobile recycling trailer intended to increase access to
recycling in Summit County. The trailer was used at summer events and will debut
in the Dillon Town Hall this October.
Become a national model for community-supported recycling…we're on our way!
These important programs are all part of a vision that was first formed in 1976 by Tim McClure. Tim continues to be an inspiration to Summit Recycling Project staff, our community, and the national recycling movement.
Traditionally, non-profit mission-driven recycling programs have been the innovators of new approaches to recycling. And, Summit Recycling Project has the opportunity to once again be a leader in progressive waste management. Indeed, the organization is poised to take great strides forward in the next few years.
Please join us in carrying out Tim's vision for recycling in Summit County. As a non-profit organization, we can remain mission-driven and adaptable to the waste stream. But, we need your support! Summit Recycling Project is pleased to announce the launch of a membership drive - and WE WANT YOU to become a member.
