| 2004 |
The Organic Fertilizer Teacher Award |
The Recycling Team at Summit High School (Made up of teachers & students in the LEAP program and the Education Learning Labs program) |
The award recognized both the teachers and students involved in this great program! The Team goes to every classroom every week to collect, sort, organize and prepare the recyclables for pick up. |
| Essential Earthy Employee Award | Chris Miller | Chris leads, coordinates and performs all of the recycling efforts in her office- and then educates everyone on the proper use of the program. Anything that is not recyclable in Summit gets loaded into her personal vehicle and carted down to Denver and Boulder for recycling. | |
| Julia Butterfly Individual Achievement Award | Jim Lamb | Described as a "well rounded environmentalist" (he covers all the environmental bases) Jim is quite deserving of this award. He was the driving force behind the County's successful Biodiesel program, works hard for open space acquisitions and just plain lives "green." | |
| Green Machine Public Works Award | Scott Hummer | Scott has served as a state water commissioner for 14 years and is generous in donating his time to educate our community on water issues. He also works for land conservation serving as the Chair for the Open Space Advisory Council. | |
| Lisa Simpson Outstanding Youth Award | Erin Stebbins | 13 year old Erin adopted the pond by Big O Tires in Frisco 3 years ago, which means that she cleans up around the pond and watches for noxious weed growth. She is also an avid recycler and public transportation fan (or course she isn't old enough to drive yet)! | |
| Greener Summit Business Award |
Conscious Coffees (formerly Breckenridge Coffee Roasters) |
Awarded to a local business that constantly researches new avenues for reaching their own goals for sustainability (both ecologically and socially). They support organic, fair trade, shade grown coffee. They are avid recyclers and supporters of community programs. | |
| Earth Goddess/Hero Award | Sue Rodgers |
Sue is a garage sale guru, melts down her sons' crayons to create a new jumbo sized crayon and collects plastic plates at parties and brings them home to wash and reuse. She has thrown a Toiletry Exchange party where everyone brought partially used and unwanted toiletries to exchange with others- some items were so popular that she auctioned them off and donated the money raised to charity! |
|
| Wild Wilderness Wonders Award | Currie Craven |
Currie has served Friends of Eagles Nest Wilderness in a leadership capacity for 10 years. He is dedicated to preserving wilderness in our state and nation and continually gives of his time to attend meetings, educate groups and otherwise advocate for Wilderness issues. |
| 2003 |
The Organic Fertilizer Teacher Award |
Wendy Blasingame | For her diligence in assuring that environmental education was added to the Breckenridge Elementary School curriculum and for teaching her Kindergartners valuable lessons about our planet and how to care for it. |
| Essential Earthy Employee Award | Robin Koppen | For establishing a composting program for the Town of Frisco Public Works Department (essentially all town gardening wastes are now composted). Robin also gives friendly recycling reminders to co-workers. | |
| Julia Butterfly Individual Achievement Award | Dave McKie | For his devotion to recycling and educating others about its importance. Dave is a true "dumpster diver" saving recyclables from being thrown away- he will repair the repairable, drive hard to recycle items across the state for recycling, and find ways to reuse the reusable. | |
| Green Machine Public Works Award | Town of Breckenridge | For their commitment to converting town vehicles to bio-diesel even when some said it couldn't happen at high altitude! | |
